THROMBOCYTOPENIA AMONG NEONATES HAVING CULTUREPROVEN SEPSIS AT A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL IN PAKISTAN

Objectives: To determine the frequency of thrombocytopenia in culture-positive neonatal sepsis. Methodology: This hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital Pakistan be­tween July to December 2021 Department Pediatrics, National Institue Child Health Karachi - Pakistan. All neonates admitted NICU with signs and symptoms sepsis positive blood culture were enrolled for this study. Complete count, C reactive protein (CRP) sent. data regarding age, gender, birth weight, platelet organism isolated on recorded proforma. Data analyzed statistically p=0.05 considered be significant. Results: Two hundred forty-six babies included The mean gestational age 37±0.56 weeks weight 3.4±0.67 kg. Male female ratio 1.2:1 admission 6.37+5.99 days. Thrombocytopenia found 192 (78.4%) neonates. There significant association Burkrolderia cepacia (p=0.002), Klebsiella pneumonia (p=0.032), Serratia marcescens (p=0.027) thrombocytopenia. Conclusions: is strongly associated gram-negative bacteria most prevalent or­ganism thrombocytopenic cepacia.
